The former chief veterinary officer of the RSPCA has launched a new consultancy for pet owners who are having doubts about the advice given by their local vet practice.
Dr Caroline Allen has launched Pet Lighthouse, an independent ‘second opinion’ consultancy that is designed to beyond the clinical diagnosis and to “put animal welfare and family needs back at the heart of the conversation”.
The consultancy offers owners an extended consultation to allow families to process complex information away from the pressure of a busy clinic, as well as providing a holistic look at the pet’s environment, behaviour, and routine beyond the symptoms they are manifesting.
Dr Allen said: “We are a nation of devoted pet parents, but more medicine doesn’t always mean a better life.
“In a world of high-tech diagnostics and 15-minute vet appointments, owners are often left in a ‘fog’ of complex choices. They aren’t just asking ‘what is wrong?’- they are asking ‘what is right for my pet, and my family?’”
She added: “Every pet is an individual, and every family has a different threshold: emotionally, financially and practically. Pet Lighthouse is about providing the clarity to choose the right path- one that prioritises the wellbeing of the animal and the peace of mind of the owner.”
