Nervous new owners, swearing parrots, and breeding bunnies – independent pet shops have seen it all and now it’s time to celebrate the wonderful work they do.
This year, sustainable pet brand Beco is launching the inaugural Beco Independent Pet Shop Awards to champion ‘the brilliant people who work tirelessly managing the independent pet shops we love up and down the country’.
Beco will be honouring these community stalwarts by asking people to nominate their favourite independent pet shop. A judging panel will visit the nominees before crowning one of them the UK’s Favourite Independent Pet Shop.

George Bramble, Beco co-founder, said: “The pandemic was tough for everyone on the high street, but with 3.2 million people becoming new pet owners last year, pet shops have been working harder than ever before with home deliveries, community support, and advice giving on everything from nutrition and pet care to sustainability.
“Britain is a nation of pet lovers and this has never been more obvious over the past year or so. We have always relied on local pet shops for all our pet care needs, and now we’re calling on people all over Britain to thank these high street champions by nominating their favourites and encouraging people to support their local pet shop.”
Nominations open on Monday, October 11 at www.becopets.com and will close at the end of October.
