A number of UK and European raw food brands have signed up to a new initiative aimed at raising standards in the category.
The new programme aims to engage manufacturers across Europe to create robust and harmonised standards. Participating companies are expected to commit to full adherence to EU regulations and going beyond these to enhance safety; robust procedures for manufacturing controls and quality assurance; and regular audits of facilities carried out by independent third parties.
The framework is closely based on the Raw Pet Food Standard programme created by trade association UK Pet Food. Companies to sign up for the new standard include The Nutriment Company, which owns brands including Nutriment, Natural Instinct, Dibo, Purrform and Barfgold; Snellman Petfood, whose brands include Benyfit Natural, Fodax Foder, Mush and Raw for Paw; and Belgian supplier Freshfrozen For Pets with its brands Jolipet, Wolf’s Menu and Barf Buffet.
The new initiative was unveiled by participating suppliers at this week’s Interzoo trade show in Nuremberg, Germany.
