The RSPCA has landed a new agreement with software firm Scopely whereby consumers can raise funds for the charity by playing online game Monopoly Go!
The Monopoly Go! “Pets Season” will see the developer make a donation to the RSPCA and its US equivalent ASPCA each time a player passes the Go square in the game. The Pets Season runs from February 4 until April 7, and will see new pet-themed tokens, accessories and stickers added to the game, as well as new boards to play, including “St Tropetz” and “Dogopolis”. The sticker designs are based on pictures of real pets submitted by online players.
Under an initiative called “Play With Purpose”, the developer will make an additional donation to the rescue charities if players collectively pass Go more than five million times before March 4. All players who pass the Go at least once will earn a custom cat-themed shield.
Victor Diaz-Roig, president, games, at Scopely said: “Pets Season reflects how we continue to evolve Monopoly Go! as a living game – introducing new innovations, community-driven content like our first sticker set inspired by real player pets, and fresh ways to play together.
“We’re also proud to extend the impact of play beyond the game to support enrichment and recovery for animals in need.”
