Vet-founded pet nutrition brand Omni has achieved B Corp status.
The recognition is based on a range of ethical criteria across sourcing, UK manufacturing and sustainability tracking measures. As well as using recycled packaging, emissions tracking, and energy use audits, the company encourages its employees to set personal environmental and social goals to achieve each quarter.
Staff can access wellness allowances, full health and dental care, as well as team training and professional development.
The company supports charities through product donations and fundraising efforts, as well as environmental initiatives such as tree planting and beach clean-ups.
The company, which is backed by Dragon’s Den investor Deborah Meaden, has seen 130% sales growth in the last six months and is expected to achieve a turnover of £10m in 2025. The brand is focused on designing recipes specifically for allergy-prone pets without the use of any animal proteins.
Co-founder Dr. Guy Sandelowsky said: “There is a misconception that the more meat a food contains, the better it is for dog health, which has fuelled a rising trend in high percentage meat diets. The reality is that dogs need protein, not meat. We now have plenty of more sustainable protein options available to us and many confer health benefits too.
“It’s hard to see how pet foods, which hero meat, are environmentally sustainable when peer reviewed research has proven that animal agriculture is dramatically harming our planet.”
