width="570"

width="175"Personalised gift site yappy.com has explored thousands of the most popular, quirky and original dog names that new owners have input into its website in the past six months to reveal the most popular dog names of the year.

Top spot of 2021 goes to Luna, overtaking Bella, the most popular dog name of 2020.
Teddy and Bella are next but the name that has most fallen out of favour is Alfie, which has moved from the most popular name in 2019 to number eight this year.

Yappy.com also looked at the top names for different breeds and, perhaps unsurprisingly, the most popular name for an English bulldog is Winston, inspired by wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

Other names dominating this breed include Buster, Bentley, George, Tank, Boris, Dexter and Vinnie. Winston came 44th in the overall most popular names list.
