Coalville Pet Supplies has become the first ever recipient of the National Pet Shop Day Recognition Award, backed by Johnson’s Veterinary Products.

Presented as part of National Pet Shop Day, the award has been created to recognise independent pet shops that go above and beyond for their customers, their communities and the animals they care for.

Coalville Pet Supplies in Leicestershire was nominated by Coalville Public Radio and highlighted the business’s decades of dedication to local people, charities, community organisations and animal welfare through expert advice and personal service in-store and support for hundreds of events, charities and other organisations in the local community.

Owners Bob and Diane McClumpha have also dedicated hours to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming parrots through their Midland Parrots business.

Matthew Gwynn, sales and marketing manager at Johnson’s Veterinary Products, said: “We are delighted to present the very first National Pet Shop Day Recognition Award to Coalville Pet Supplies. Independent pet shops are at the heart of communities across the UK, providing trusted advice, exceptional customer service and support that extends far beyond their businesses. Bob, Diane and the entire team embody everything National Pet Shop Day represents, making them worthy recipients of this inaugural award.”

David Hyde, station manager and director at Coalville Public Radio, added: “Bob, Diane and the whole team genuinely care about what they do. They care about their customers, their pets and making sure every animal receives the very best care. Their knowledge and advice are second to none, and they always go the extra mile to help people find the right products for their pets.

“What really stands out is everything they do beyond the shop. Through Midland Parrots they work tirelessly to rehome parrots when owners can no longer care for them, look after birds that have simply been abandoned and even help reunite missing parrots with their owners. The care, dedication and love they show every bird that comes through their doors is incredible.”

The award was presented by Paul Lees, chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council.
