Pet feeding bowls produced by HOWND have recently been found to be effective against a strain of feline coronavirus, the multi-award-winning company says.
The ethical pet product manufacturer made the announcement after an external laboratory conducted tests on behalf of BioCote, the antimicrobial additive incorporated into its award-winning pet bowl.
During antiviral testing, the polypropylene containing BioCote technology was found to reduce feline coronavirus (strain Munich) by 90% in just two hours.
The antibacterial HERO Bowl is made from recyclable polypropylene and until now has been widely sold in the UK and overseas as a dog food and water bowl that is scientifically proven to reduce the H1N1 influenza virus as well as bacteria, mould and fungi by up to 99.99% for the expected lifetime of the bowl.
RESCUE SHELTERS
HOWND regularly donates its HERO Bowls to UK and overseas dog shelters. Upon receiving the results of the antiviral laboratory testing amidst the covid-19 pandemic, the company is donating the small bowl version to cat rescue shelters and charities, many of which feed feral cats that could be vulnerable to feline coronavirus..
“With our commitment to continuously test the efficacy of our additives against a wide range of microbes, BioCote antimicrobial technology has recently proven effective against a feline strain of the coronavirus family, which of course is of particular importance to our clients and partners in the pet industry,” said Jennifer Collier, partner development manager at BioCote, on the recent antiviral test results.
“BioCote-treated pet products inhibit the growth of microbes on surfaces in between cleans, therefore making it the perfect choice for hygiene-conscious pet owners, raw feeders, grooming salons, vet surgeries, kennels and any place where cross contamination could occur,” she added.
The findings will be displayed on the new HERO Bowl packaging, which will be available from June.
