The Society for Companion Animal Studies’ 2019 conference, ‘Companion Animals and Us: One Welfare’, is now open for registration.
This year’s event – to be held at The College of Animal Welfare in Cambridgeshire on Saturday, September 21 – explores the concept of ‘One Welfare’, the idea that animal welfare, human wellbeing and the environment are all intrinsically linked, and that interactions between them should be to the benefit of all.
Presentations on thought-provoking and sometimes controversial topics will provide a platform for an afternoon of workshop discussions. Delegates will have opportunities to exchange ideas and to network.
The line-up of speakers includes Dr Elizabeth Ormerod, Dr Anne McBride, Clifford Warwick, Vicki Betton and Debbie Rook. Veterinary surgeon Chris Laurence will chair the conference.
The day will explore animal ownership, of both exotic and domestic pets, and also assistance animal partnerships. Speakers will discuss what can go wrong, how we can help people to make informed choices and the support needed to help maintain healthy relationships that are beneficial to both animal and owner. The current situation regarding pet keeping policies in social and privately rented housing in the UK and overseas and the impact this has on people and their pets will also be discussed.
