Worried pet owners turn to Dr Google

Over half of all British adults in the UK own a pet – and it appears many of them turn to Google for advice, particularly when things go wrong. But what are the most common pet-related questions that Brits are asking?

Webbox Naturals, manufacturer of natural food for cats and dogs, has conducted in-depth research into Google’s most common pet questions in a bid to support owners across the UK.

The three most frequently Googled dog queries are:
1. How to stop my puppy from biting – searched 6,600 times per month on average
2. How to stop dog barking – searched 3,600 times per month on average
3. How to train a puppy – searched 3,600 times per month on average.

And the three most frequently Googled cat queries are:
1. How to pet a cat – searched 480 times per month on average
2. How to find a lost cat – searched 480 times per month on average
3. How to get a cat to like you – searched 320 times per month on average.

BEHAVIOUR CHANGES

Camille Ashforth, senior brand manager at Webbox Naturals, said: “If there is something wrong with your pet you should speak to a vet but, of course, we know that many pet owners will turn to Google first when trying to figure out how to do some of the day-to-day tasks involved in caring for a cat or dog.

“It’s interesting to see that dog owners are wondering more about behaviour changes – and cat owners are thinking more about if their cat likes them and where it could have gotten off to.

“We’re so glad to see owners are curious about their pets, and that they want to learn how to give them the best care possible.

“However, we advise all pet owners to gain information from reliable sources – your vet will always be happy to help with any quick questions you might have, as will as reputable pet care brands such as Webbox Naturals.”
