Pet food firms backs retailers

Pet food manufacturer The Innocent Pet is supporting its retail customers across the UK by offering reduced minimum orders throughout the latest lockdown.

The campaign has been put in place to provide flexibility to specialist pet stores that face uncertainty following retail restrictions in response to the pandemic.

Founder Chloe Heaton said: “We understand that it’s difficult for everyone at the minute. While pet shops can remain open, it is not easy for shop owners to predict footfall.

“We offered the same scheme in the November lockdown, which was hugely welcomed and took the strain off small businesses having to place larger orders in challenging circumstances.”

HUGE HELP

Wetherby-based doggy day care business Woofer’s Courtyard is one of the retailers that has taken advantage of the reduced order size on offer. Owner Ella Holden said: “It’s a huge help to place smaller orders because it means we can offer customers new products without committing too much cash.

“Predicting sales during lockdown is impossible because we don’t know how many dogs will be coming into day care as some owners might move to working from home with new lockdown rules.”

The West Yorkshire-based manufacturer has remained open throughout the pandemic, listed as an essential business in supplying pet retailers and directly to customers online through its website.

The Innocent Pet has experienced a significant increase in demand for its award winning air-dried food and, despite the pandemic, has not suffered any delays to orders being despatched.

The family-run manufacturer specialises in producing grain-free and treat products for dogs and cats.  Everything is handmade in Yorkshire using British ingredients and its bespoke air-drying system.

The manufacturer is based in Thorp Arch and was founded by Chloe and her husband, Justin in 2013 -inspired by the couple’s rescue dog, lurcher Bongo.
