Retractable dog lead manufacturer Flexi is 50 years old this year.
Manfred Bogdahn first created a retractable lead for his dog Purzel in Hamburg, Germany, in 1972, with the help of a spring mechanism from a power saw. He founded the company one year later and first exhibited at the Interzoo exhibition in 1974.
In 1990, production was expanded with a new plant in Bargteheide and, today, more than 350 employees work to produce tens of thousands retractable dog leads a day, which are exported to over 90 countries.
