To coincide with this year’s Rabbit Awareness Week (June 22-26), Supreme Petfood has launched a new web-based tool to help inform pet owners about the nutritional needs of rabbits and guinea pigs.
Developed in partnership with specialist veterinary expert Molly Varga from The Exotics Animals Vets, the Selective Nutrition Guide app gives owners step-by-step visual tools to assess a pet’s weight and body condition; exact daily measurements for feeding of Selective nuggets, based on the pet’s individual requirements, body weight and BCS; a safe food database outlining which leafy greens, vegetables, and occasional fruit treats are safe to feed, and a weekly menu creator to help balance individual pet preferences with nutritional variety and accessibility.
While the surveys suggest that rabbit owners take their guardian role very seriously, current feeding guidelines may not meet basic dietary needs and, at best, are confusing, argues Supreme.
Marketing director Claire Hamblion-Jennings said: “Rabbits and guinea pigs are intelligent, social, and deeply rewarding companions, and we know that most pet parents want to do the right thing. But our research has shown that what’s been missing until now is definitive, actionable feeding guidelines.
“Our simple, expert-led approach should finally clarify any confusion, and the new app will put precise, expert-level nutritional guidance in the palm of everyone’s hand.”
