A new range of dog treats made from insect protein has been launched under the Some Grub brand.
The new treats are soft baked and available in three varieties – Superfood, Calming and Nut Butter.
Superfood contains strawberries, raspberries, and cranberries to support longevity, gut health and digestion; Calming is made with chamomile and valerian root with carob and a twist of orange for flavour; while Nut Butter contains peanuts and cashews along with the insect protein to deliver amino acids and natural prebiotics.
The range is already available in Co-op stores with an RRP of £3.50.
Some Grub was founded by Ollie Harkus and Ben Chapman, who wanted to create a pet food brand that supports both the health of pets and the environmental health of the planet.
The founders said: “We created Some Grub with a mission to make millions of pets happier and healthier, while cutting the huge impact that feeding them is having on the planet.
“We were shocked that 20% of the world’s meat and fish is fed to pets and concerned by the growing rate of allergy and stomach issues experienced by animals eating traditional pet food. There are limits to a purely plant-based diet, so we wanted to make protein-packed products for pets that are both healthy and limit the impact on the environment.
“Because of their health and environmental benefits, we believe that insects will eventually be the number one protein in pet food and more popular than beef, chicken, pork and fish.”
