Attendees at last week’s Pet Industry Federation (PIF) Awards pledged more than £15,000 to fund transport carrying donated pet supplies to Ukraine.
The funds will help cover the cost of lorries needed to deliver thousands of pounds’ worth of food, medicines, and essential pet products already donated by UK pet companies. Each truckload costs around £3,500 to send, meaning the pledges raised will fund several shipments through the Save Pets of Ukraine GoFundMe campaign.
Guests at the black-tie event, attended by over 300 pet industry professionals, were invited to pledge an amount for the fund, to be collected at a later date. The Big Biscuit Co and The Doggy Daycare Centre, whose tables pledged the highest amounts, each received a bottle of champagne in recognition.
PIF chief executive Nigel Baker said: “We were absolutely delighted and incredibly proud of the generosity shown by everyone at the PIF Awards. The pet industry has once again demonstrated the kindness and solidarity that define it.
“This money will make a real difference to animals in desperate need, helping to get vital food, medicine, and supplies to pets left behind in Ukraine.”
