Mars-owned pet food brand Royal Canin has entered the supplement market with the launch of four products formulated to support the health and wellbeing of dogs from six months of age.

Supplied in a one-a-day chew format, the supplements target common health concerns including Joint & Ageing, Digestion, Skin & Coat and Puppy Immunity & Digestion.

The Joints & Ageing supplement contains green-lipped mussel; Digestion contains prebiotics to help maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria and beta-glucans (postbiotics); Skin & Coat is formulated with Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids as well as Zinc and a blend of vitamins; while Puppy Immunity & Digestion contains prebiotics and vitamins C and E to support development from the age of six months. Joint & Ageing and Skin & Coat Chews have an RRP of £14.99, while the other two varieties have an RRP of £11.99.

A recent study of 2,000 UK dog owners by Royal Canin found that one in five admit to frequently worrying about their dog’s overall health, while 77% recognised that supplements can play a vital role in supporting their pet.

Matt Mullen, retail director at Royal Canin, said: “At Royal Canin, supporting pets through every stage of life is at the core of our purpose. Our new supplement range has been expertly developed to provide targeted support during key life stages or when specific health needs arise.

“Our new supplements range contains science-backed nutrients and have been developed in partnership with board certified veterinary nutritionists. For example, our joint and ageing supplement contains the key ingredient green lipped-mussel, a brilliant source of omega-3 fatty acids; EPA and DHA, and a variety of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients known to support joint health and throughout the ageing process.”
