Chinese pet food group Gambol has signed a new agreement with Norwegian marine harvesting firm Aker Qrill to secure a supply of Antarctic krill at the same time as committing to sustainability initiatives in the Southern Ocean.
The new partnership elevates the two companies’ relationship from long-term supply chain partners to strategic allies, focusing on pet nutrition innovation and sustainability. The companies will cooperate on joint research and development initiatives, combining Aker Qrill’s marine nutrition research with Gambol Pet’s data-driven insights on pet behaviour in order to develop new pet nutrition products. The partnership also covers the promotion of sustainability in animal welfare and marine protection across Gambol Pet’s supply chain and an agreement to share a “science + sustainability” message with pet food purchasers.
Gambol Pet’s president Stephanie Du said: “Aker’s approach aligns perfectly with our core belief in respecting the nature of dogs and cats. True pet nutrition means respecting animals as independent beings.”
Gambol Pet brands include Myfoodie and Fregate.
