Employers in the pet care industry are being asked to contribute feedback in order to ensure a new Level 3 Animal Welfare Manager apprenticeship standard is fit for purpose.
The standard, which is being developed by the pet trade in conjunction with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, is designed to support those working in supervisory or managerial roles in animal establishments including pet stores, grooming salons, dog day care centres and animal welfare charities. Once developed, the new standard will allow a progression route from the existing Level 2 Animal Care Assistant apprenticeship as well as entry into employment for those employed in Level 3 roles.
The apprenticeship employer group is led by Animal Focused founder Vicky Skinner, Look North dog groomer Joanne Angus and Scenterbark’s Lucy Lloyd, and they are seeking wider input from employers to ensure the new standard will be able to meet the needs of all apprentices in the pet care sector.
Skinner said: “This is a really critical point in the development process. The feedback we get now ensures that the demands of all occupations are considered allowing us to develop an apprenticeship standard which is truly fit for purpose.”
