RNLI Lifeguards have warned the public to be aware of Weever fish and of what to do if you get stung by one.

There have been more than 25 Weever fish stings across Devon and Cornwall beach in the last week, reports the Plymouth Live.

The venomous fish have spines of their backs and gill covers and come into shallow water, burying themselves under the sand. If stepped on, the spine of the fish may pierce the skin, discharging the venom and causing severe pain as well as localised swelling and inflammation in the foot.
