A puffin needed a hand after getting stranded at sea.

Members of the public, a lifeguard, workers and RSPCA staff came to the rescue of the puffin who found himself out of his depth in Withernsea, Yorkshire.

RSPCA Inspector Claire Little said: “The caller was worried because the little bird was on his own and didn’t seem to be able to fly. They called us and said he was floating in the water getting hit by the waves in the surf.”
“He’s an adorable bird,” she added. “Luckily, he doesn’t appear to be injured or sick. We suspect he was just dehydrated and suffering from exhaustion.”

The puffin was taken to Scarborough SeaLife centre, then on to the RSPCA’s West Hatch Animal Centre, in Somerset.

Staff there will rehabilitate  him until he’s strong enough to  be released to the wild.
“I hope this little guy – who I nicknamed Puff – will make a full recovery and can return to the wild soon,” said Claire.
