Penguins can shoot their poo up to about twice their body length, and scientists have now calculated exactly how much force they require to do so.

The team specifically looked at Humboldt penguins (Spheniscus humboldti), which spew their faeces in a graceful arc from their nests on high ground, Live Science reports.

They calculated that the pressure generated in the penguins’ rectums was roughly as much as four pounds per square inch. That means the powerful poopers can fling their faeces at about 5mph and up to about 53ins (134cm).
