A Scunthorpe Market stall that had been looking for a new site to trade from is to move to a new market in the town centre after reaching a compromise with council officials.

J Bale Pets, which has traded at the market for more than 70 years, had told the Grimsby Telegraph that it would not be moving to the planned St John’s Market, which is set to open next spring in a former BHS building in the Parishes shopping centre.

At the time, the business said it had not been offered adequate warehousing facilities at the new site and would be looking for an alternative location.

But now, according to the Telegraph, a compromise has been reached between the business and the council and it has agreed to take a stall on the proposed £4m market.

Julia Murray, from J Bale Pets, said she would still have preferred for the market to remain at its current site on Market Hill but was happier with what was now being offered by the council.

She said: “We want to stay with everybody else, it is a community. We have known everybody for a long time and we never wanted to do anything else but they were forcing our hand. This is what we need, so we can stay with everybody and hopefully, all will be good.”

And she thanked the public and her fellow traders for their support and North Lincolnshire Council for listening.

“Hopefully the future will be positive,” she concluded.
