A team of marine scientists are hunting for ‘dinosaurs’ in the deep underwater canyons off Sodwana Bay, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

They are hoping to find the coelacanth‚ a prehistoric fish species that have since been found off the coast of East Africa and Indonesia. Six were found in 2000 off the coast off Sodwana Bay in KwaZulu-Natal.

The African Coelacanth Ecosystem Programme has confirmed the presence of at least 32 in the area‚ each of them identifiable by the unique colour markings on their bodies, reports the country’s Sunday Times.
