Leading UK pet healthcare products supplier Johnson’s Veterinary Products is celebrating 100 years in business with a range of events designed to highlight the role of local pet stores in pet-owners’ lives.

Founded in West Bromwich in 1921 by the Johnson family, the business has grown from a small range of products dedicated to the health and wellbeing of poultry to a huge range that now includes products for dogs, cats, rabbits, small animals and caged birds.

Chairman David Johnson, grandson of founder Arthur Johnson, said: “The business is in good health, having supported the critical role pet stores have played during the recent pandemic as they helped care for an increasing number of pets owned by those looking to maintain their mental wellbeing.

“Johnson’s was founded in the aftermath of the Great War, helping poultry keepers to improve the health and wellbeing of their stock during World War Two and supporting the rise of high street pet stores as the public welcomed pets into their homes.

“We have always recognised the importance of pet stores to the local community and have supported them with a range of products that help pet owners resolve a lot of less critical health and conditioning issues, in a cost-effective manner – the ethos of Johnson’s for 100 years.

“We believe it’s important to give something back to the businesses that have supported us, which is why, to celebrate our official birthday on July 31, we are holding a competition to see which pet stores create the best window or in-store display in support of Johnson’s.

“There will be regional winners, with thousands of pounds of Red-Letter day prizes, which will hopefully reward everyone involved, at a time when we can hopefully get out and enjoy time together once again.

“Raising money is also important to share with our five chosen charities for 2021: Hounds for Heroes; Dogs for Good; Fat Fluffs, Woodgreen and Fur Babies Cat Rescue, all of which continue to provide invaluable support to pets and their owners.

“Although the high street is struggling, local pet stores are a beacon of hope and have always been supported by Johnson’s. We recognise the importance of pet owners shopping local and talking with knowledgeable, qualified people, who share their passion for pets in all shapes, sizes and species.

“It’s been an eventful 100 years, but we move forward with optimism. We are confident Johnson’s will remain a family-owned business and will continue to deliver the right products at the right price to help pet shops retain their important role at the heart of pet care and the retail environment.”

Details of the competition, open to all pet stores, garden stores and pet retailers, are available through the Johnson’s website (, where visitors will also find useful display materials and resources.

“It’s a time to welcome the end of the restrictions and thank those businesses that helped pet owners through the pandemic.”

Johnson’s products include licensed AVM/GSL medicines.
