Kittens rescued from a warehouse have appeared on TV.

The kittens were discovered in a meat warehouse at the back of a supermarket in Peckham, London. There were reports of cats being given away there, so the RSPCA investigated.

Staff took Inspector Callum Issitt to the back of the shop where the cat was hiding with her kittens in storage boxes and on bags of grain, next to the butcher’s counter.

Callum said: “The staff had got the mum cat originally as a mouser, but they didn’t have her neutered and, of course, the inevitable happened – she became pregnant. They were happy to sign the mum and her kittens over to the RSPCA and seemed quite relieved.”

Staff at RSPCA South Godstone named the mother cat Lucy and the kittens Joanna, Nelly, Tobias and Todd – a Sweeney Todd theme as they were found near the butcher’s section of the shop. The cats have featured on TV in the new Channel 5 show Jo Brand’s Cats and Kittens
