A Scottish aquarium has closed for a three-month-long refurbishment to mark its 20th anniversary.

Macduff Marine Aquarium has attracted visitors and wildlife enthusiasts since 1997, welcoming 48,000 visitors annually, and showcases the best of local sea life, reports the Aberdeen Evening Express.

Work includes revamping its open-air 16ft, 90,000-gallon kelp reef tank, which will be drained, its walls stripped and then re-lined.

It plans to re-open for the summer holidays.
