A wedding ceremony went awry when an owl took over proceedings.

The barn owl was acting as ring-bearer at Jeni Arrowsmith and Mark Wood’s wedding in Cheshire when it suddenly swooped at the best man, who was afraid of ‘anything that flies’.

Friends and family of the couple initially gasped in delight as the bird glided down the aisle with the rings in a pouch attached to a leg.

But mayhem followed as the owl seemed to take a dislike to the best man and launched itself at him. He was knocked off his chair at the ceremony in Peckforton Castle as he tried to escape the winged attacker.

The guests then proceeded to howl with laughter as the best man fell to the floor with his legs in the air.

The bride and groom luckily saw the funny side.

Jeni told the Mirror: “It was an amazing day for us both, and has given us great memories!”
