The Sahara desert could be seeing a new future – in fish farming. A new joint venture between South Korea and Algeria has resulted in the Shrimp Cultivation Research Center. Elsewhere, farms are experimenting with catfish, reports the Reuters news agency.
Algeria hopes to tap the huge aquifers beneath the Sahara, that covers about 80% of the country, as iit seeks new ways to feed its growing population and diversify its oil-based economy.
