I am a firm believer that we small shopkeepers should all help one another, as there is nothing worse than empty shops . All you hear from the public is that it is not worth going to such and such a town as there is nothing to do or see. If we help each other then we grow stronger as a town. For instance, our local vet is an orthopaedic specialist and quite often he has clients who stay in the area overnight. He recommends a certain guest house. If that guest house is full then he passes the customer on to another guest house. When they ask if there is a pet shop in the area where they can buy their hospitalised dog a toy, the guest house owner quickly produces a flyer for guess who! By co-operating, at least three businesses get trade from one customer.
