A sting in the tail?

So Petindex has reverted to its Sunday opening as a result, say organisers, of feedback from both visitors and exhibitors.

When organisers Emap first made the announcement at last year’s Glee Petindex, the trade press was quick to suggest that moving from Sunday might not necessarily be the best idea. After all, as well as a core group of independent family-run retailers who choose to visit on Sunday, it’s also useful for those who prefer not to encroach on their normal working week.

So credit goes to the organisers who have obviously taken on board last year’s post-show comments and reacted accordingly.

However (cue the raising of quizzical eyebrows), while Petindex will now run from Sunday to Tuesday, Glee itself sticks to its original strategy to throw open its doors on the Monday and close on Wednesday.

Yes, one show, two opening days, two closing days. Now that’s an interesting twist to “Two for the Price of One”!

But cast your mind back to last year’s show when literally one step whisked visitors from the green hues of the Glee trade stands to the pink tones of Petindex.

Let’s hope that the 2010 event sees Glee Petindex suitably positioned. After all, the last thing a pet exhibitor wants is to be trying to explain a product to a prospective customer against a background of banging, drilling, shouting and the general mayhem that is part and parcel of any set-up day. For presumably, Glee exhibitors will be setting up on the Sunday…

However, I am probably doing a major disservice to the organisers, who no doubt have already thought of and dealt with this scenario.

So for the burning questions of the hour. What are your thoughts on a Sunday-Petindex/Monday-Glee opening? Were you going to give Glee Petindex a miss this year but are now re-thinking that decision? Let us know.

Many smaller Pet shops Just cannot afford the time away during the week even for such an important event as Petindex . Sunday is the only day many of us can attend.

Well, they said they’d listened to us retailers and exhibitors so they cancelled Sunday for the pets show. Now they say they’ve listened to the same people and put it back again. Weird? Are they politicians? Anyway, I’ll be there as usual but if the show is as small, I’ll be home for Sunday roast early
