Nutritional supplements firm Lintbells has undertaken a major staff recruitment programme after demand from the veterinary industry surged by more than 300% in the space of a year.
The company has been developing its business as a supplier of ‘affordable’ companion animal products to vets, at a time when many pet owners are putting a greater emphasis on the costs associated with their animals’ health.
Four qualified veterinary professionals, who between them have more than 20 years experience in practice, have joined the Hertfordshire-based company as veterinary business development executives.  They will work in different regions of the country, complementing the work of Lucy Millett VN, who took on a similar role covering South East England last spring.
The new staff are:
Jo Gibbons, who will work with practices in the South West.  Jo qualified in veterinary nursing science from the University of the West of England and worked in a veterinary hospital for two years.  She is currently studying for a certificate in small animal nutrition.
Sarah Bennett, who will cover the Midlands and Eastern England. Sarah worked in practice for 10 years and taught for two years post qualification.  She has recently completed a certificate in exotics.

Guy Blaskey, founder of Pooch & Mutt, is running the London Marathon on April 22, raising funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
He told pbwnews: “This time last year I hadn’t run more than a mile in my life (except when forced to do cross-country at school – and I definitely didn't run most of it). The last year has been filled with a bit of pleasure; completing my first 10km and half-marathon and A LOT of pain...two weeks ago I couldn't walk up or down stairs!”
Part of that training included running a 10km race in last July (49 mins 48 secs) and a half marathon (1hr 51 mins). “They both hurt a lot,” he comments.
His inspiration for raising funds for the charity was seeing first-hand at shows the job these trained dogs can do to improve the lives of those less fortunate. “Hearing Dogs trains dogs to act as the ears for deaf people, alerting them to a variety of sounds from door bells to smoke alarms. I visited the charity recently and heard talks by deaf people lucky enough to benefit from having a hearing dog.
“The difference these dogs makes is incredible. Deaf people often feel separated from society and the incidence of depression is incredibly high. These dogs help people to reintegrate with society and get enjoyment from life once again.”
He is asking for donations to help the charity: “By donating to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, you are having a direct effect on someone else's quality and enjoyment of life... but not mine, it means that I have to run 26.2 miles (and hundreds of miles of training runs), and I am not sure there is any enjoyment in that!
“To show your support, I would very much appreciate any donation you could make. All the money goes to Hearing Dogs – none of the money goes to fund the six new pairs of running shoes I have bought in the last year, special running clothes and watches that I probably don't need, or the build-up of extortionate physio bills.
“And feel free to forward this on to anyone you know who might like to donate because they a) know me  b) like dogs  c) want to help deaf people  d) have money that they want to get rid of.”
You can make a donation at http://www.justgiving.com/guyblaskey

“But I am really looking forward to the challenge and am determined to make sure I’m fit enough to make it round in one piece.  I completed the London Marathon in 2006 and I can remember the real sense of achievement that you feel once you’ve crossed the finish line.”
You can join in with all of the adrenaline and excitement on the day of the race as our charity still has one ‘Golden Bond’ space left for the Marathon for someone to sign up to.  To be able to successfully take part you would need to raise a minimum of £1,500 in sponsorship money.

The RSPCA has appointed international communications boss Gavin Grant as its new chief executive from the start of next year.
Gavin, a former RSPCA director, said: “The RSPCA is the world’s biggest and best animal welfare charity.  It has an immense amount to be proud of and more to do in a challenging environment for all charities.
“People in this country care passionately about animals.  There is enormous public support for the RSPCA and our work, and we need to harness that goodwill even more effectively to help meet these serious challenges.”
Gavin, who has a dog and three cats, has substantial commercial, leadership and communications experience.  He was the charity’s director of campaigns and communication between 1988-91.  He led communications for The Body Shop, and joins the RSPCA from the UK arm of the global public relations company Burson-Marsteller (B-M), where he was chairman.
“The RSPCA is a big charity that achieves big things,” he said. “When I was last at the RSPCA, we campaigned for a ban on conventional cages.  Thanks to constant public support and action, that ban finally becomes law in January.  We also wanted compulsory dog registration to promote responsible ownership.  The moves towards this in Wales are great but the bigger battle is yet to be won.
“The RSPCA is unique – only the RSPCA can rescue abused animals and bring the abusers to justice.  Our country reputation is as a nation of animal lovers.  Sadly the truth can be very different.  We have a chance to put that right.”
Gavin takes over from retiring chief executive Mark Watts.  Meanwhile he’ll be out and about meeting RSPCA inspectors, staff, branches and volunteers throughout England and Wales.
