An aquatics wholesaler has been included in a list of companies judged most likely to inspire Britain.

The Tropical Marine Centre has made it onto the London Stock Exchange Group’s 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain report. The report is a ‘celebration of some of the fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK and Europe’.

TMC’s managing director Paul West said: “It is a fantastic achievement to be included in this report and is a testament to our ongoing commitment to animal welfare and best practices, as well as the passion and dedication of our staff, which has all helped in ensuring our hobby continues to flourish and grow.”

Established in 1970, TMC currently supplies over 1,200 retail stores in the UK with livestock and aquatic products and has a well-established distribution network in mainland Europe, with at least two distributors in each of the major European countries.

Its objective is to be the leading wholesaler of marine livestock to the trade with livestock ethically sourced, handled and imported, and investment made in a sustainable trade.

The company is also a leading manufacturer and distributor of innovative commercial filtration equipment and quality-branded aquatic products including the award-winning AquaRay Solid State Lighting range and the REEF for Advanced Aquarists range.

The report is a celebration of the UK’s fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium-sized businesses across the UK and to be included in the list, companies needed to show consistent revenue growth over a minimum of three years, significantly outperforming their industry peers.

The Rt Hon Greg Clark, secretary of state for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, said: “I want to congratulate the 1,000 companies from across the UK featured in London Stock Exchange Group’s pioneering 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain report. Championing high growth innovative SMEs is crucial for the continued success of the UK economy and a country that works for everyone. We are committed to ensuring that companies of all sizes can access finance to grow, scale-up and create high quality well-paid jobs across the country.”
