Symply crowned a right-royal winner

Family-run pet food business the Symply Group has been presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise at a ceremony at the company’s headquarters.

Following the official royal ceremony at Buckingham Palace in July, this month’s event saw Eddie Milbourne, founder and managing director of Symply, presented with the official award by Alexander Boswell, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire.
 
Known for pet food brands such as Canagan, Symply, Piccolo and the Cheshire Cat’s Garden, Symplygained the royal recognition for outstanding international growth, commercial success and its contribution to the UK’s economy through its pet care products. The ceremony saw local councillors, staff and MPs celebrate the award.

Eddie said: “I am absolutely delighted to celebrate this award with the local community, for whom I am eternally grateful for their support over the years. Many of my team are based in surrounding areas and have all played a huge part in helping achieve our success.”
 
After a 30-year career in the pet food industry, Eddie set up Symply in 2009 in the warehouse where the ceremony was held this week. After nearly nine years, the business now exports to 35 countries and turns over £21.5m – with just 20 permanent employees.
 
“I have done many amazing things in my career, but this is without a doubt the highlight thus far,” he said. “I want to thank in particular the hard work of my team, support of my family and HRH’s team in choosing Symply as the rightful winner of this award.”
 
Eddie’s son, James Milbourne, who works alongside his father in running the company, said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this award for our achievements in overseas markets, which is testament to the dedication, hard work and collective focus of our team, distributors and suppliers.
 
“After years of consistent and increased focus to leverage growth internationally, it is hugely satisfying to have our efforts recognised and certainly motivates us to continue our strategy to offer high quality pet food to consumers all over the world.”

Symply is building up a strong following among pet owners globally, with a loyal customer base in both the European and Asian markets.
