At the recent Global Pet Expo, America’s largest annual trade show, The Company of Animals in partnership with Northmate walked away with two awards for the Green slow feeder.
It was initially awarded first place in the dog category but then later, Dr Marty Becker, best-selling author and frequent guest on ABC’s Good Morning America program, announced that Green had also been named one of the ten Best Pet Products of 2013. This award is based on nominations by 100 of the top professionals in the veterinary and pet fields.
Dr Becker said: “Too many pets eat too fast – causing bloat or excessive gas – then become bored and display destructive behaviours. I love this product because it slows down speed-eaters and feeds not just the body, but the mind.”
A spokesperson for Green said: “Green by Northmate is a great way to turn a dog’s meal into a challenging game. The ingenious design is like a ‘tuft of grass’, featuring sturdy blades of stylized grass that turns mealtime into a mentally stimulating experience.
“Simply scatter your dog’s meal across the surface and let him seek out the food. Especially recommended for aggressive gulpers and pets on a restricted calorie diet, Green prolongs eating time, making meals healthier and more fun. And since this product is made of durable plastic that’s phthalate-free, it’s 100% pet and dishwasher safe.”
The Green is simple to use and its quirky peaks and shapes make the dog work hard, on average taking the dog 10-15 minutes per meal.
“We are delighted with these awards,” said Company of Animals’ MD Steve Driver. “We only set up distribution in the US just over two years ago, as we wanted to launch our own and our European partners brands. Initially we were unsure of the reaction we would receive, but we have been delighted with the response so far and the US is proving to be a great success.”
A video accompanies the launch of this product, which is available to all retailers. The product comes in a stackable, recyclable corrugated carton, and has a suggested RRP of £24.99.
