Church charities took five golden retrievers to Boston to help residents heal after the Marathon bombings.

“People talk to the dogs – they're like furry counsellors,” said Tim Hetzner, president of Lutheran Church Charities, which started the Lutheran K-9 program several years ago after a shooting that killed five at Northern Illinois University.

And about 30 dogs of all shapes and sizes are manning the halls and waiting areas of Los Angeles International Airport seven days a week in an effort to ease tension for passengers.

PUPs, or Pets Unstressing Passengers, dogs have vests that advertise their availability to be cuddled or scratched, according to Jaunted.com.
