I went to pay my water charges the other day only to be confronted by a new layer of online security – a self-destructing number sent by text to my mobile phone. The only way I can log on is to input this six-figure number, which is only valid for 20 minutes. All very well and good for security, but I don't have a mobile signal in the building, so I have to walk to the end of the street and up the hill until I get a signal, then wait for this elusive text. By the time I get back to the shop, the text has self-destructed so it’s no use! What was a two-minute task that could be done in between customers has now become a 20-minute marathon with my neighbours wondering why the pet shop man is running up and down the street waving his mobile phone around and swearing! The next morning I was logging onto my online banking and was told there is a new layer of security...a six-figure number sent by self-destructing text. Scream!!!!!!!!!!
